Bycockets are versatile in sizing and you can often use two sizes small-medium or medium-large so feel free to choose from the range closest to your measurements. If you want to wear braids/veils under, remember to add room/measure for this.

To measure your size, measure the circumference of your head around the forehead, above the ears, and to the back of your head.

Straw hat with rounded crown, common for 14-16th century

Historical straw hat based on a find from Germany, hand braided and handsewn. 750 kr/sek

A durable and soft Straw Hat, perfect for those warm summer events. Shaped on a hat mould for a good fit, with a circular brim. Due to the hat being made only with natural straw, the tone/colour might change a bit between products.

This hat is hand braided and handsewn with straw, after a 15th-century find from today’s Germany. 100 % natural straw, no chemicals added.

The artwork shows examples of hats worn during fieldwork from the medieval period.

Measures: The diameter of the hat brim is 45-46 cm, height is 10-12 cm (depending on your size).

Size: measure around your head, pick a size the same as your measure or 1 size larger if you want to use a linen headpiece under the hat. I’ll shape the hat to your size upon ordering.
Small: 56 cm circumference
Medium: 57-59 cm cf
Large: 60-62 cm cf
XL: 63-64 cm cf

The straw hat can be moistened and put on your head to achieve the perfect fit. I recommend using a linen ribbon or leather cord to secure the hat to your head on windy days. (I wear mine as seen in the photos).

Care instructions: store flat or hanging, brush off dirt or rinse with cold water. If the hat is a bit bent at the brim upon arrival, spray it with lukewarm water and put it to dry in the shape you want.

Flat straw hat for 16th century working women

850 kr/sek

Straw hat for Landsknecht women, trossfraus, country women, 16th-century rural workers etc. This hat is made to fit perfectly for the above reenactment choices, but may of course be used for your own adventures.

This straw hat is made for working women (nobility wore other fancier hats) and the flat shape makes it perfect to wear with linen headwear/cap/veil/wulsthaube. A hat that looks historical during summer reenactments, is soft enough to shape over your head for sun protection and durable.

The handcrafting is inspired by a find, hand braided and handsewn (the same braiding technique and material as the round straw hat in my store) but hand shaped according to artwork from the 16th century.)

Measures & materials:
The diameter of the hat brim is 42-44 cm, and the rounded top is 16-18 cm in diameter. One size fits all, you’ll need to tie or pin it in place. Linen ribbon included (unbleached or bleached depending on stock).

100 % natural straw, sewn with straw and linen thread (the tone/colour might change a bit between products depending on the colour of the straw.)
